Harmonic gearboxes are widely used in industrial robots, humanoid robots, and precision automated equipment due to their small size, large transmission ratio, and high positioning accuracy. From the perspective of lubrication applications, harmonic gearbox noise is often not a single quality problem, but rather the result of a combination of structural characteristics, operating conditions, and lubrication mismatch.
First, the transmission principle of harmonic gears determines their noise sensitivity. The flexible gear meshes with the rigid gear in a state of continuous elastic deformation, and the tooth surface is subjected to periodic stress changes. If the oil film is unstable, the meshing impact will be amplified, producing a continuous high-frequency whistling or humming sound.
The lubrication condition of bearings and supporting components is equally critical. Under high-speed or frequent start-stop conditions, ordinary grease is prone to oil separation, grease sludge, or shear failure, resulting in significant rolling noise, which is further amplified by the housing structure.
Without altering the structural design, optimizing the lubrication scheme is the most direct and cost-effective noise reduction method. A suitable grease for harmonic gearboxes must simultaneously meet the following criteria:
First, the oil film is stable, capable of withstanding meshing pressure without increasing resistance due to excessive viscosity;
Secondly, it has shock absorption, buffering and noise reduction capabilities, and can absorb the impact of gear meshing;
Third, it has good wide-temperature stability and can maintain consistent lubrication even under elevated or low-temperature conditions.
